Refer A Child

How to Refer a Child              Frequently Asked Questions

The referral process is the first step in a child's wish. A wish can provide a magical and empowering interlude in a terrible and frightening time. Children are energized by a wish - by imagining it, describing it, planning it, and anticipating it. Families tell us that a wish can encourage a child to see a future to fight for, and then to fight on, often against tremendous odds, when courage and hope are lagging.

Children under the age of 18 with a life-threatening medical condition are potentially eligible for a wish. After a child is referred to the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, the Foundation will contact the child's treating physician to determine if the child is medically eligible for a wish, based on the medical criteria established by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. In addition, a child cannot have received a wish from another wish-granting organization.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation accepts referrals for potential wish children from parents or guardians of the child, medical professionals, or the children themselves.
